Mike Quarry

Michael W. "Mike" Quarry ( born March 4, 1951 in Bakersfield, California, † June 11, 2006 in La Habra, California ) was an American boxer of Irish descent. He is the brother of Jerry Quarry.

Quarry began boxing at age eight, but received only seventeen years old an official license as an amateur boxer. In 1968 he attempted to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games, but was disqualified in an eliminator for is illegally ducking below the belt.

As his brother, Jerry Quarry, a popular heavyweight boxer was, he was all his life compared to him. Quarry even copied the style of its big brother, which is why he was often announced only as Jerry Quarry's little brother.

On June 27, 1972 Quarry lost his only title shot against then- champion Bob Foster in the fourth round by knockout. At the same event, his brother was arrayed against Muhammad Ali and inferior prematurely.

Quarry died on 11 June 2006 at the age of 55 years at the Dementia pugilistica, a special form of dementia. Mike Quarry was buried in Shafter, California, near his brother, who had died of the consequences of the same disease.
