Mike Sullivan (ice hockey, born 1968)

Michael Barry Sullivan ( born February 27, 1968 in Marshfield, Plymouth County, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player and current coach. During his career he played for the San Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins and Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League.

Career

Sullivan played for four years from 1986 to 1990 at Boston University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. During this time he participated with Team USA at the World Youth Championship in 1988. After he had already been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1987 in the fourth round to 69th position by the New York Rangers, he joined the season 1990/91 to the professional. The transfer of rights to his person had been but now discharged from the Rangers to the Minnesota North Stars.

So spent the Center's first complete season in the International Hockey League with the San Diego Gulls, before the 1991/92 season as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks newly established. There Sullivan on first attempt to jump into the trunk squad and remained until the 1993/94 season into Northern California to him, the Sharks relied on the waiver list, from where it chose the Calgary Flames. After another three and a half years in Calgary, where he had his best year 21 points in the game year 1995/96, the Flames transferred him in June 1997 as part of the NHL Entry Draft in 1997 to the Boston Bruins. Near his home town, he played only one year, as he remained unprotected in the NHL Expansion Draft 1998 by Boston and was selected by the Nashville Predators. However Nashville transferred the Americans straight on to the Phoenix Coyotes. The Coyotes Sullivan was still four seasons long in the squad and finished on 29 July 2002 his active career.

Right after he took over as head coach of the Providence Bruins, the farm team of the Boston Bruins of the American Hockey League. Due to its excellent performance with Providence, he was still promoted during the 2002/03 season as assistant coach of the Boston Bruins after there Robbie Ftorek and his coaching staff had been dismissed. For 2003/ 04 the appointment as head coach and Sullivan was managed with the Bruins the best season record since 1992 /93. After Lockoutjahr 2004/ 05 we went with him in the season 2005/ 06, before he became the new General Manager Peter Chiarelli after a weak year and miss the playoffs, released on 27 June 2006. After a one year break, he was obliged by the Tampa Bay Lightning as assistant coach on May 31, 2007. For the season 2009/10 Sullivan took over the same position with the New York Rangers and filled this out until the end of season 2012/13.
