Mike Thackwell

Mike Thackwell ( born March 30, 1961 in Auckland, New Zealand ) is a former Formula 1 driver.

Thackwell was at the start of the GP of Canada in 1980 with 19 years to become the youngest Formula 1 driver (before Ricardo Rodríguez ) who had ever participated in a Formula 1 race. He was regarded as a great young talent, but his career was interrupted by a serious accident in which he head injuries and a broken foot difficult drew upon.

He participated in five Grands Prix, but could only take twice the qualification hurdle.

In 1983 he was two Vice-European Champion next to Jonathan Palmer in team Ralt - Honda in the formula.

In 1984 he won the Formula 2 European Championship alongside Roberto Moreno in the team Ralt - Honda and was runner-up in the next year in succession series formula 3,000.

After he has completed the age of 26 his motorsport career, he was a helicopter pilot on an oil rig. Today he lives in England and works as a teacher.
