Mike van Diem

Mike van Diem (* 1959 in Sittard ) is a Dutch film director and screenwriter. He won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film with his film Karakter.

Youth

Van Diem was born in Sittard. He studied in Utrecht, where he became a member of the fraternity CS Veritas. After a long time he graduated students in 1989, the Nederlandse Film en Televisie Academie.

Awards

In 1990, Van Diem the " Student Academy Award" for the film Alaska as best foreign language film students in the drama category. For the same film, he also won a Golden Calf.

The most famous film by Mike van Diem is Karakter. This film won the 1998 Academy Award, which he dedicated to the late last year Coen van de Vrijberghe Coningh. In addition, Van Diem won, among others, in 1997 the "Grand Prix " of the Paris Film Festival, the "Grand Jury Prize " of the American Film Institute and the "Director's Week Award " by Fanta Porto.
