Mike Yeo
Mike Yeo ( born July 31, 1973 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach. Since June 2011 he has been head coach of the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League.
Career
Mike Yeo began his professional career in 1990 at the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League. It was only in his fourth season with the Wolves managed the winger under head coach Glenn Merkosky the breakthrough in the OHL when he scored 66 points scorer in 65 games of the regular season. Yeo, who was never drafted, received the 1994/95 season a professional contract with the Houston Aeros of the International Hockey League. For this, he completed his debut season in 63 matches in the IHL, where the Canadians posted 17 points. In the following three seasons he scored at least ten goals this season, the record of 41 points reached Yeo in the 1997/98 season. The season 1998/99, his last with the Houston Aeros, earned him winning the Turner Cup. In the final series, he defeated the Aeros the Orlando Solar Bears in seven games. After the striker had spent a season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League, he finished his playing career.
The Canadian remained loyal to the organization of the Penguins and was employed as an assistant coach in Wilkes -Barre from the 2000/01 season. Initially he was three seasons, the right hand of head coach Glenn Patrick. Yeo was later held the same position under Michel Therrien, Rick Kehoe and Joe Mullen. For the season 2006/ 07 he was promoted from the farm team of the Pittsburgh Penguins to the NHL organization and officiated continue as assistant coach. In the 2008 /09 season Yeo was part of the winning team of the Penguins, who won the Stanley Cup. In the season 2010/11 the Canadians worked as a head coach with the Houston Aeros, Yeo which reached the finals series for the Calder Cup. After the dismissal of Todd Richards at the Minnesota Wild in April 2011, Yeo was two months later bound as his successor.
