Mikhail Gurevich (chess player)

Mikhail Gurevich Naumovich (originally Russian Михаил Наумович Гуревич, scientific transliteration: Mikhail Naumović Gurevič; born February 22, 1959 in Kharkov ) is a chess master with roots in the Soviet Union. Gurevich represents since the end of 2005, Turkey.

Career

Gurevich won the 1985 USSR Championship and received in 1986 the Grandmaster title by FIDE awarded. In 1991 he took up his residence in Belgium and has since preferred the English spelling of his name, Mikhail Gurevich. Gurevich heard since the late 1980s to advanced world leaders and was for a time analysis and partner 's second of Viswanathan Anand. He won the tournament in Reggio Emilia at the turn of 1988/89, Moscow 1990 and the Kocaeli Open 2002. At the European Championship in Batumi 2002, he was third.

In 2001, he first participated in the championship of Belgium ( Charleroi ) and was national champion by ( 9 from 9 ) he scored 100 % of the possible points. Differences with the Belgian Chess Federation, however, led to the fact that Gurevich since 2005, Turkey represents. The end of 2005 he succeeded in the FIDE World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, a large sporting success: He came in the top eight and thus qualified for the Candidates Tournament reimported. There he was defeated Péter Lékó in the first round. In March 2006 he won in Istanbul, the Turkish national championship before Suat Atalik. Since 2006, he has the title FIDE Senior Trainer.

His current Elo rating is 2574 (as of March 2014), so it is on the third place of the Turkish rankings. His highest ever Elo rating of 2694, he reached in January 2001, his best finish in the world rankings was the fifth place, which he shared in January 1990 with Valeri Salow, in January 1991 with Yevgeny Bareev and Jaan Ehlvest

Gurevich took part in three Chess Olympiads, in 1992 with the Belgian team, 2006 and 2008 with the Turkish team. 1989 won Gurevich with the Soviet team, both the European Team Championship and the World Team Championship, at the European Team Championship he also took part in 2007 with the Turkish team.

Chess club

In the German Chess Bundesliga Gurevich played from 1991 to 1994 for the SV 03 /25 Koblenz, from 1999 to 2002 for the Godesberg SK and from 2002 to 2006 for the SG Porz with which he was 2004 German team champion. In the British Four Nations Chess League ( 4NCL ) Gurevich played from 1997 to 2000 in Slough and in the 2005/06 season at Guildford A & DC. He was 1999 and 2000 British team champion. The Dutch team championship (until 1996 Hoofdklasse since Meesterklasse ) won Gurevich with De Variant Breda 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2006., In the French National I or Top 16, he played from 2001 to 2008 when Club de la Tour Orcher Gonfreville.
