Mikhail Matyushin

Michael Vasilyevich Matjuschin (Russian: Михаил Васильевич Матюшин; * 1861 in Nizhny Novgorod, † October 14, 1934 in Leningrad) was a Russian painter and composer who was one of the Russian avant-garde.

From 1876 to 1881 he was educated at the Moscow Conservatory and worked from 1882 to 1913 as a violinist in the court orchestra of Saint Petersburg. In parallel, he studied with his girlfriend Jelena Genrichovna Guro art at a private art school and painted at this time, a series of landscape paintings.

As co-founder of the League of Youth he made with Elena Guro, from 1910, the center of the avant-garde in St. Petersburg; He developed his ideas in close collaboration with Nikolai Kulbin, Pavel Filonov and Kasimir Malevich.

Matjuschin counted as one of the founders of Futurism in art. With Malevich he formed a lifelong friendship; In 1913 she designed with two other artists, the opera "Victory over the Sun" to the Malevich created the stage, which inspired him to the development of Suprematism. Matjuschin wrote to the opera, the music, the poet Velimir Khlebnikov the prologue.
