Mikhail Matyushin

Michael Vasilyevich Matjuschin (Russian: Михаил Васильевич Матюшин; * 1861 in Nizhny Novgorod, † October 14, 1934 in Leningrad) was a Russian painter and composer who was one of the Russian avant-garde.

From 1876 to 1881 he was educated at the Moscow Conservatory and worked from 1882 to 1913 as a violinist in the court orchestra of Saint Petersburg. In parallel, he studied with his girlfriend Jelena Genrichovna Guro art at a private art school and painted at this time, a series of landscape paintings.

As co-founder of the League of Youth he made with Elena Guro, from 1910, the center of the avant-garde in St. Petersburg; He developed his ideas in close collaboration with Nikolai Kulbin, Pavel Filonov and Kasimir Malevich.

Matjuschin counted as one of the founders of Futurism in art. With Malevich he formed a lifelong friendship; In 1913 she designed with two other artists, the opera "Victory over the Sun" to the Malevich created the stage, which inspired him to the development of Suprematism.
