Mikhail Postnikov

Mikhail Mikhailovich Postnikov (Russian: Михаил Михайлович Постников, English transcription Mikhail Mikhailovich Postnikov, born October 27, 1927 in Schatura in Moscow, † May 27, 2004 in Moscow) was a Russian mathematician who worked on topology.

Postnikov was a specialist in algebraic topology and differential topology. He received his Ph.D. in Lev Pontryagin at the Moscow State University, where he was also a professor. In the 1990s he was at the University of Oklahoma.

He led a 1951 Postnikov systems for path-connected spaces, which are topological spaces and whose homology groups can be constructed from their homotopy groups.

His PhD is one of Sergei Petrovich Novikov.
