Mikhail Vielgorsky

Mikhail Wielhorski ( Wjelhorski, * 31 Oktoberjul / November 11 1787greg in Volhynia, .. .. † 9 Septemberjul / September 21 1856greg in Moscow) was a Russian patron, cellist and composer Polish- Russian origin.

Life

Wielhorski studied music and was a student of Kieseweter and Romberg. He composed a number of popular songs. His home in St. Petersburg was a center of musical and literary circles of the city. Robert Schumann was impressed by his skills as a cellist on a trip to Russia. Mikhail Wielhorski was considered a friend of Tsar Nicholas I and he had the part of the Hofministerium select the task, musicians and present them to the court in St. Petersburg. So there 's event included Adolph von Henselt (1814-1889) and Liszt.
