Mikkel Hansen ( born October 22, 1987 in Elsinore, Denmark ) is a Danish national handball player who was elected World Handball Player of the Year 2011. He currently plays for the French club Paris Saint- Germain HB.
Career
Hansen's career began in Elsinore. Then he reached over Virum Sorgenfri to GOG Svendborg TGI HK, with whom he won the 2007 Danish championship. In the summer of 2008, the right-handed moved to Spanish club FC Barcelona. With Barcelona he was twice runner-up Spanish and in 2010 was the final of the Champions League, but failed there on THW Kiel. Then Hansen signed a contract with AG København. With AG København, he won the championship in 2011 and 2012. Following the bankruptcy of AGK in summer 2012, he joined the French club Paris Saint- Germain HB. With Paris in 2013, he won the championship.
Hansen made his debut in the Danish national team on 5 June 2007, for which his father Flemming Hansen was also active. The back player traveled only as a reservist for the Olympic Games in 2008 and moved for a sick leave of Michael V. Knudsen in the squad the Danish selection. In the group match against Russia, he scored in the last second the decisive winning goal 25:24 via direct free throw.
In the 2011 World Cup Hansen finished with the Danish selection for second place. With 68 goals, he was top scorer of the tournament and invited to join the All- Star team. This year he was also elected World Handball Player. In 2012 he triumphed with Denmark at the European Championships. Here, too, was to be the best Left back player for the All- Star team. In the summer, he retired at the Olympic Games in London with the Danish team in the quarterfinals of. At the World Championships in 2013, he was with his team, runners-up and also re-appointed to the best players. At the European Championships in 2014 in his own country he was elected and additionally European Vice-Champion in the All- Star team.
