Mikko Jokela

Mikko Jokela Oskari ( born March 4, 1980 in Lappeenranta ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since May 2011 HIFK Helsinki of the SM - liiga in under contract.

Career

Mikko Jokela began his career as a hockey player at youth level of KalPa Kuopio, where he was active until 1997. He then moved to HIFK Helsinki for the first team he made his debut in the SM- liiga was in the 1997/98 season and with whom he immediately won the Finnish championship in his rookie year. After he started the 1998/99 season with HPK, the defender returned to Kuopio, in which he finished the season. From 1999 to 2001 he played for the league rivals Jokerit Lappeenranta, before he was appointed by the New Jersey Devils, who had chosen him already in the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 in the fourth round as the 96th overall player, to North America. There he came in one and a half years, however, only for their farm team of the American Hockey League, the Albany River Rats used. On 24 January 2003 he was given in exchange for Steve Kariya to the Vancouver Canucks, for whom he in the 2002/03 season his debut in the National Hockey League was, and this was his only use in the NHL. The rest of the time until 2004, however, spent the Finn again in the AHL, where he stood for Vancouver's farm team Manitoba Moose on the ice.

For the season 2004 /05 Jokela signed in his native Finland with HPK Hämeenlinna, for which he needed three years aground in the SM- liiga and with whom he also Finnish champion in 2006. In addition, he was defeated in 2007 in the final of the IIHF European Champions Cup with 0:6 against the Russian opponent Ak Bars Kazan. After two seasons with Jokerit Helsinki of the national team was awarded a contract with HC Dinamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League. After the 2009/10 season his contract was not renewed and the Finn decided to sign a contract for two years at Timrå IK. There his contract was dissolved in March 2011 after Jokela had expressed a desire to return to his Finnish homeland. Two months later, he received a contract with HIFK Helsinki.

Internationally

For Jokela Finland participated in the Under-18 European Junior Championships in 1997 and 1998, the U20 Junior World Championships in 1999 and 2000, and the 2008 World Championship in part.
