Mikko Koivu

Mikko Sakari Koivu ( born March 12, 1983 in Turku ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who plays as a center for the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League.

Career

Mikko Koivu is the younger brother of the famous hockey player Saku Koivu. During the NHL Entry Draft in 2001, it was the leaders of the Minnesota Wild, who selected him in the first round to sixth position overall. When he played in the 2003/04 season his last season for TPS Turku, he was in 45 games 6 goals and prepared before 24. In the summer of 2004, he finally moved to North America in the American Hockey League to the Houston Aeros, which act as a farm team of the Minnesota Wild. There he played 67 games and scored 20 goals and made 28 assists. For the season 2005/ 06 he was then taken to the squad of the Minnesota Wild and completed a good rookie season. He and his brother Saku were appointed in 2006 for the Olympic Games in Turin in the Finnish national team.

In the following years the Forward was able to increase its yield point continuously and thus became one of the top performers in the team game. His best season was 2008/ 09 when he was able to achieve 67 points scorer in 79 league games completed. On 16 October 2008 also succeeded him set a new club record with four assists in a game.
