Mikko Lehtonen (ice hockey, born 1987)

Mikko Tapani Lehtonen ( born April 1, 1987 in Espoo ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who stands at SC Bern in Switzerland from September 2013 under contract.

Career

Mikko Lehtonen started his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth of the Espoo Blues, for their first team, he made his debut in the SM- liiga in the season 2003/ 04. He was spot - and with impunity on his only use. In the following season, the attacker ran again in only one game for the Blues in the SM- liiga and spent the rest of the time in their A-Juniors. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2005 in the third round than a total of 83 players from the Boston Bruins. First, however, the right-handed shooter remained in Finland, where he earned a regular place in the Blues battled with which he failed in the 2007/ 08 season until the finals to win the championship at Kärpät Oulu. Parallel took over the former youth international from 2005 to 2007 for the Finnish U20 national team in the match operation of the second-rate Mestis part.

In summer 2008, Lehtonen from the Boston Bruins to North America was called. There he was in the 2008 /09 season his debut in the National Hockey League in which he only once stood but on the ice. He spent the rest of the season in Boston's farm team, with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League, for whom he scored a total of 53 points scorer in 72 games.

In August 2010, Lehtonen has been committed from Skellefteå AIK of the Elitserien. With this the Finn reached the playoff finals of the Elitserien, where the team was defeated against Färjestad BK in the season 2010/11. During the regular season Lehtonen had scored 30 goals and won the Håkan Loob Trophy as top scorer. In May 2011 he was taken from Severstal Cherepovets of the Kontinental Hockey League contract. Having already completed at the end of the 2012/13 season with the ZSC Lions 17 games, he signed the end of June 2013 the reigning Swiss champion SC Bern a two year contract.

Internationally

For Finland Lehtonen at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2005 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2006 and 2007 participated.
