Mildthryth

Mildred of Minster (also: Mildreda, Mildrith or Mildryth; † July 13, 734) is an English Catholic saint.

Biography

The date of birth of Mildred of Minster is not known. She was born as the daughter of King Merowald of Magonset and Princess Ermenburga of Kent in the second half of the 7th century. Her parents are the founders of the monastery Minster on the Isle of Thanet in Kent. Mildred was educated at the Abbey of Chelles, then nun in Minster. There, her mother was already abbess. From the year 695 Mildred took over their office. Ermenburga was also worshiped under the name of St. Aebbe as saints.

Mildred of Minster, died on July 13, 734 Their relics were preserved for nearly 300 years in the monastery. Was captured as a monastery Minster in 1011 by the Danes, they brought the relics to Canterbury. During the Reformation, they were destroyed.
