Mile End tube station

Mile End is an underground station of the London Underground Mile End district in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 2, at the intersection of Mile End Road and Burdett Road. Here there is a Central Line, District Line and the Hammersmith & City Line. In 2011, 14.01 million passengers used the station.

The station name is derived from a milestone that marked that point, which is exactly one mile east of the boundary of the City of London. Mile End is the only underground station of the entire Underground network, in which at the same platform, there is a transfer possibility to both line types; one hand tube train (tube ), on the other hand Unterpflasterbahn (sub -surface ).

The station was opened on 2 June 1902 the Whitechapel and Bow Railway, a joint venture between the Metropolitan District Railway (predecessor company of the District Line ) and the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway. The Metropolitan Line operated Mile End for the first time on March 30, 1936 (the branch line to Barking in 1988 transferred to the Hammersmith & City Line ). The tracks of the Central Line went on 4 December 1946 in operation.

Near the station is Mile End Park.
