Militant

Militancy is a warlike attitude, an aggressive appearance, or a physical or verbal violence of individuals and groups in the struggle for or against political or religious beliefs.

Etymology

The term is derived from the Latin of the 15th century. There meant " militare " that " serve as a soldier " (Latin for " miles" ). From this concept, the concept of the military is derived - in contrast militancy is mostly a programmatic and structural tendency to aggressiveness in the civilian sector dar.

" Militant ( isme ) " means a courageous defense of an activist for one thing, which is implemented mostly without physical violence, such as by writing, song and civil disobedience in French and in Philippine English.

Term use

Usually militants organize against the real or perceived oppression by state violence or other abuse. In particular, in parts of the radical left militancy is debated as a possible form of action.

Sometimes the term is also used to entitle a person with strong solidified opinion, for example, the terms " militant Christian " or " militant atheist ". This militancy is for certain philosophical, religious or other theories and programs which make use of the inherent potential for violence or incite this. The term " militant state " represents a heavily armed and ideologically aggressive state.
