Military of Montenegro

The Montenegrin Armed Forces ( Montenegrin: Vojska Crne Gore ) consist of the Army, Navy and Air Force of the State of Montenegro. The armed forces have been established since 2006 and are today regarded as a functioning small army in Europe.

The armed forces have about 3,100 active members. The structures and weapons were largely taken from the armed forces of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. As a coastal state of Montenegro took over the entire Navy of the composite.

Montenegro is a member of NATO's Partnership for Peace program and an official candidate for the defense alliance. Montenegro is also a member of the merger of the armed forces on the Adriatic Sea, the Adriatic Charter.

History

The Montenegrin army emerged in May 2006 from the Podgorica Corps stationed in the joint Serbian - Montenegrin army. The Joint Marine was acquired by Montenegro, but is to be reduced to a small coast guard.

Locations

Locations of the Air Force are Golubovci ( Podgorica ), the only airport in Montenegro. There are also naval bases Bar, Kumbor and Tivat.

Equipment

The Montenegrin army has 61 T-55 tanks, but have been shut down for financial reasons. For this purpose, it keeps ready approx 300 pieces of artillery. The staff strength stood at 6,500 people, but was now reduced for reasons of cost to almost half. The German Bundeswehr is, inter alia, also Montenegrin from the military.
