Milium (dermatology)

Milia (singular Milium, Latin for " millet ( grain ) " ), also known as milia or whiteheads, are small white cysts that predominantly on the face, but also the entire body (including genitals ) may occur. They are not a skin disease but a purely cosmetic problem.

Milia are cysts that form in the sebaceous glands outputs; they are made of horn material, not from tallow. You feel most and are often hard to know when they come to the skin surface. Sometimes they are overlaid by skin, so it is not clear that it is milia. The treatment is easy and can be done in a beauty salon. The cysts are scored with a small knife or a small hypodermic needle and expressed. Sole Expressions ( without zuvoriges scoring ) is not possible and the attempt painful. With a larger number of milia these should be removed by a dermatologist because of the risk of scarring is great.

Milia neonatorum

This is to grits which occur in almost all newborns. You can explosively spread and occur mainly on the face, but also on the gums. If they occur on the line between hard and soft palate, it is called Epstein pearls. The lesions heal without treatment within a few days again.
