Milk bar

A milk bar is a hospitality establishment where originally only non-alcoholic beverages, often ice cream, were served.

The first milk bars emerged in mid -1930s. Especially in the U.S., many milk bars were opened because of Prohibition. In the 1950s and 1960s, the interest in milk bars is greatest. Today's milk bars, however, often also sell alcoholic beverages.

Through the book A Clockwork Orange and its film adaptation of the fictional Korova Milk Bar was known. A same milk bar in New York took the film as a template and built the milk bar after.

A Polish variant of the milk bar is mleczny the bar. These cheap self-service stations had their heyday especially in the communist era. In Poland, these restaurants offer food today, which come from the traditional Polish cuisine.
