Milka

Milka is the brand name for chocolate products of the international food group Mondelez International.

Early Years

On November 17, 1825 confectioner Philippe Suchard founded a confectionery in Neuchâtel ( Switzerland ). He campaigned for a new handmade dessert, the " [ le] chocolat fin de sa fabrique " (French for " fine homemade chocolate "), whose recipe is however not known. In 1826 he acquired the neighboring village Serrières a former water mill and built a mechanical production of chocolate on (about 25-30 kg per day).

Chocolate ( except hot chocolate ) was originally manufactured or without milk, so they had more of a bitter taste and dark brown color.

The Milka brand

In 1901 the brand name " Milka " was registered; the abbreviation arose from the contraction of the words " milk " and " cocoa ". Since then, the Milka - board is offered in a purple jacket, provided with a cow, the Milka cow, including the Alps. In 1973, the Milka cow also purplish.

Following the acquisition of "Jacobs Suchard " by Kraft Foods in 1990, the name Suchard was completely banished from the packaging.

The Color Purple plays a central role for the brand Milka. According to the company force the Milka Lila in 1995 was the first abstract color brand that has been in the broadest sense protected Europe. In a trial against the Verden biscuit and wafer factory Hans Freitag that used a purple tone for the packaging of a 500 gram biscuit assortment, the Bundesgerichtshof decided on 7 October 2004 in a landmark judgment that the color purple in the packaging of chocolate products further may only be used for Milka products.

Milka chocolate is produced almost exclusively in the factory Lörrach ( Germany ). Where about 140,000 tons of various Milka chocolate varieties are produced every year - mainly 100 g bars. Other works for other Milka products are in Bludenz ( Austria ) with the production of about 60,000 tons in the main, 300g Milka boards, in Strasbourg ( France) as a center for chocolates as well as in Bratislava (Slovakia ) and poses (Poland). In the Belgian Herentals bolt ( Leo ) are produced.

In the manufacture Lörrach an adjacent street to the factory has been renamed to " Milka road ".

In the 1990s, became known by the Milka television advertising Peter Steiner, whose song "It's cool man " made it into both the German and the Austrian and Swiss charts. The well-known jingle " Milka, the tenderest temptation since chocolate " was composed by the famous TV and film composer Christian Bruhn.

Varieties

Nowadays there are many different flavors, such as hazelnut, strawberry, yogurt, almond, cream - cream, caramel or nougat. The range is regularly augmented by only temporarily offered, some exotic flavors ( such as " baked apple " in winter).

In all varieties the purple packaging, the white lettering and the purple cow can be seen.

Among the brand extensions of Milka include Milka M -joy (in four varieties), Nussini, tender, Milka Luflee, Milka heart, Milka Montelino, Milka Chocolate & Biscuit Minis, Milka Leo, Milka Amavel, Milka chocolate drink, Milketten and Milka Snax (in four varieties).

Cooperation

Criticism

In Black Markenfirmen in the consolidated Kraft Foods, to which the Milka brand is one, serious human rights violations, exploitation and child slavery in the cocoa suppliers from the Ivory Coast are the chocolate industry, accused.
