Milliyet

Milliyet ( Turkish for Nationality, subtitles: press and trust ) is a conservative Turkish daily newspaper. The mass-circulation newspaper was founded in 1950 as an independent journal of Ali Naci Karacan.

Worldwide gained fame Milliyet in February 1979 as its chief editor Abdi İpekçi, who had since 1954 (initially as Head of Production ) at the newspaper act, was killed by Mehmet Ali Agca.

In Germany Milliyet was one of the three established major Turkish newspapers. In May 2010, the publisher announced its subscribers and distributors that the German edition of the newspaper has ceased publication.

The last issue for European countries was published on Saturday, May 8th of 2010 ( No. 22630 ). In Turkey, " Milliyet " appears unchanged.

In April 2011, the Dogan Media Group Milliyet sold together with the daily newspaper Vatan to the Demirören Holding.

In early August 2013, the longtime columnist Can Dündar was summarily dismissed. This government had adopted a very critical attitude in the context of nationwide protests to Gezi Park and this translated into his column. After several weeks his column were not included in the newspaper was, it was announced his resignation on August 1, 2013.
