Millosh Gjergj Nikolla

Migjeni (real name: Millosh Gjergj Nikolla or Miloš Nikolić Djoka; born October 13, 1911 in Shkodra; † August 26, 1938 in Torre Pellice ) was an Albanian poet. Under the acronym of his name, Migjeni, he wrote almost exclusively works in Albanian.

Migjeni visited the Serbian language primary school of his native city of Shkodra and later the Orthodox Seminary of Sveti Jovan in the then Yugoslav Monastir (today Macedonia). There he learned Russian, among others, French, Greek and Latin, and read literature in these languages. When he returned to Albania, he gave up his job desire to be, and was instead teachers priest. He worked in Vraka near Shkodra and Puka later. During this time he began to write poems and prose texts in Albanian language.

Migjeni infected with tuberculosis, unsuccessfully sought healing in northern Italy and died of this disease at the Hospital of the Waldenses to Torre Pellice at the age of 26 years.

During his lifetime, a collection of poems under the title Vargjet e was Lira (Eng. Free Verse ) printed in Tirana, but later banned little of the authoritarian Zogu government. Although Migjenis oeuvre is not very extensive because of his early death, he is valued as an important poet in Albania until today.

According to him, the Migjeni Theatre is named in his birth city of Shkodra.
