Milna

Milna is a municipality in the Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia. The port town is located on the bay on the west coast of the island of Brac, 20 km south-west of Supetar. The municipality has 1,034 inhabitants, while the town of Milna 830 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). The city is surrounded by picturesque bays such as the Bay Lučice or Duboka.

History

The town developed in the early 18th century. The parish church " Annunciation " from 1783 has a monumental Baroque facade and a Stuckaturenzyklus (late Baroque) from the early 19th century. The late baroque altar painting " Annunciation " is a work by Sebastian Ricci. In addition to the sculptures of St. Joseph and St. Jerome in the parish church dates the grave monument of Stjepan Tomas with Secession and folklore motifs. In the Osibova Bay are the ruins of a small Gothic church. During the Napoleonic wars, the Russian fleet in 1800 had their base in Milna.

Culture

The Milna cove with a wide outer portion and the small, shallow inner part is home to one of the ports on the island of Brac. In the vicinity there are several coves with sand and pebble beaches. Courts for indoor soccer, basketball, volleyball, bocce, table tennis facilities are also available. The ACI Marina Milna, the only marina on the island Brač, has 200 berths in the sea and 20 on land.
