Milpitas is a city in Santa Clara County, California, United States, with 66 790 inhabitants ( 2010). The city is located north of San José and south of Fremont, which lies within the catchment area of the metropolis of San Francisco. According to the census of 2000, there were approximately 52 percent of residents of Asian origin. The geographic coordinates are: 37.43 ° N, 121.89 ° West. The metropolitan area has a size of 35.3 km ².

The name of the city, Milpitas is derived from the plural diminutive of milpa Mexican word, which means garden, growing in the corn.

One of the few attractions in Milpitas include the 1837 Built Jose Maria Alviso Adobe. The heritage protection house is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the greater San Francisco. Despite a reconstruction dating from 1853, it represents one of the finest examples of the Monterey Colonial style that prevailed in California from 1830 until 1860.
