Milton of Campsie

Milton of Campsie is a village in the Scottish Unitary Authority East Dunbartonshire. It lies on the northern edge of the Central Belt about 15 km north-east of Glasgow and 24 kilometers west of Falkirk at the foot of the hills Campsie Fells. The nearest town is three kilometers south to Kirkintilloch With the mansion Kincaid House, dating to 1812, is a monument of the highest category A Scottish monument in Milton of Campsie.

History

Milton of Campsie was within a mill and developed in the late 18th and early 19th century with the establishment of printing houses. In the 1950s, a hospital for infectious diseases was settled. Until the 1980s, watches were produced in Milton of Campsie well. Today there commuters live mainly to Glasgow. During 1951 in Milton of Campsie 1356 inhabitants were counted, the number reached in 1991 with 4056 people to their maximum level. 2001 3950 inhabitants were reported in the village.

Traffic

The village is served by the A891 to the road network. This leads from Kilsyth until after Strathblane, where it joins the A81. The M80 motorway is a six km south. 1848, the village was connected to the railway network. The station was closed after 103 years in 1951. The tracks have since been removed in favor of a trail.
