Mineola is a city in Wood County in the U.S. state of Texas.

Geography

The city is located in northeast Texas, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 with U.S. Highway 80, 125 kilometers east of Dallas and has a total area of 13.8 km ², of which 0.1 km ² water surface.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 4,550 people in 1,779 households and 1,197 families. The population density was 332.1 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 77.19 % White, 13.38 % African American, 0.70 % Native American, 0.26 % Asian, 0.02 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 6.44 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 2.00% were of mixed descent, and 12.95% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,779 households, 29.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 50.6 % were married couples living together. 12.6% were single mothers and 32.7 % were non-families. 30.1 % of all households were single-person households, and 17.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size amounted to 3.08.

26.3% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.3 % from 18 to 24, 22.0% 25-44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 22.5 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 87.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 82.1 males.

The median income for a household was $ 30,000, and the median income for a family $ 37,528. Males had a median income of $ 29,938 versus $ 20,750 for females.
