Mineral Point is a small town in Iowa County, south of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The city is part of the metropolitan area of Madison.

Location
Mineral Point is located in the south of Iowa County. U.S. Highway 151 runs west past the place. The distance to Madison, Wisconsin's capital, is about 72 km.
History
Mineral Point was named by the first settlers who ( to German as: "Lead intoxication" ) because of the so-called mineral or lead rush came in the area of the present town. The point which lies east of the present location and the lead had been found for the first time, it was to Mineral Point. From lasting settlement can be spoken from the year 1827. 1829 Mineral Point became the County Seat of the newly created Iowa County. Because of the lead inventories initially flocked whole immigrant families from England ( particularly Cornwall ), Ireland and Germany, according to Mineral Point. This development changed when in 1848 the California Gold Rush miners moved westward to dig for gold there. Another immigration boom developed by the discovery that zinc carbonate, which had hitherto kept only for a worthless by-product of lead production, lots of metallic zinc contained. The Mineral Point Railroad, which was used from 1857 to procure zinc ore, which was used to Zinkoxidherstellung, boosted also trade in Mineral Point. 1870 reached the place with its 3,275 highest population. 1882 Mineral Point Zinc Co. was founded, the largest zinc -producing factory in the entire United States was in 1892. The last zinc mine was closed in 1979 and thus the Mineral Point Zinc Co. In the meantime, agriculture and tourism to greater economic factors have become. The mining past is still reflected today reflected in the style of preserved buildings. Therefore Mineral Point in 1971 became the first city in Wisconsin, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
