Minette Walters
Minette Walters ( born September 26, 1949 in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, as Minette Caroline Mary Jebb ) is an English writer.
Life and work
Walters is the daughter of army officer Captain Samuel Jebb and his wife Colleen. Therefore, she spent the first ten years of her life on military bases in the north and the south of England. After the death of her father, she first attended the Abbey School in Reading, Berkshire, until she received a scholarship for the Godolphin boarding school in Salisbury.
After leaving school, she went to Israel where she was active in a community and in a home for juvenile delinquents in Jerusalem. She then attended the Trevelyan College in Durham, which she finished in 1971 with a degree in French. Minette Walters Alec married in 1978, whom she met in Durham. With him she had two sons, Roland and Philip.
Her first novel, The Ice House, was published in 1992. In this work, Walters wrote two and a half years. The novel was initially rejected by several publishers until Macmillan Publishers bought him for ₤ 1,250. Within four months, he won the John Creasey Award from the Crime Writers Association and has been adopted by eleven foreign publishers. With her next two books, The sculptor and the Schandmaske, Walters won the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award and the CWA Gold Dagger.
Topics that processes Walters in their works include isolation, family conflict, justice and revenge. In the novels is often spoken of real backgrounds or events to make the story seem vivid and real. Walters describes itself as a "research" writer who always starts with low requirements and initially does not know how the story will turn out. But you will always be amazed at the thing, because they would like the readers to know what happens next.
