Mingachevir reservoir

The Mingəçevir Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Azerbaijan and one of the largest in the Caucasus. It is located near the city Mingəçevir.

Water is dammed the Kura. The reservoir is used for power generation, irrigation and flood control. The hydroelectric power plant produces at a height of 65 m with six Francis turbines a capacity of 360 MW. It was taken in 1955 in operation and has long been the largest power plant in the Caucasus. It is operated by Azerenergy.

The earth dam is 80 m high and its crown is 1550 m long.

The reservoir is 605 km ² ( 620 km ² also be specified) and has a storage capacity of 16.1 billion cubic meters, of which 9 billion utility space are. Its average depth is 26.6 m and its maximum depth of 75 m. It is about 70 km long and up to 18 km wide.

From the dam go from two channels, a 172 km long and the other 123 km.
