Mingo County, West Virginia

Mingo County is a county located in the state of West Virginia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Williamson.

Geography

The County is located in the southwest of West Virginia, is bordered by Kentucky and has an area of ​​1097 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lincoln County, Logan County, Wyoming County, McDowell County, Pike County ( Kentucky ), Martin County ( Kentucky) and Wayne County.

History

Mingo County was formed on January 30, 1895 from parts of Logan County. It was named for the Mingo Indians, a branch of the Iroquois.
