Minidoka County, Idaho
Minidoka County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rupert.
Geography
The County is located in south-central Idaho, is about 70 km from Nevada and Utah away and has an area of 1976 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Blaine County, Cassia County, Jerome County and Lincoln County. It lies entirely in the plane of the Snake River Plain. In the county there are parts of the Craters of the Moon National Monument.
History
Minidoka County was formed on January 28, 1913 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named after the first settlement in this area.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 living in Minidoka County 20 174 people in 6,973 households and 5,362 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 78.07 percent White, 0.26 percent African American, 0.88 percent Native American, 0.42 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 17.83 percent from other races groups. 2.52 percent are descended from two or more races. 25.46 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,973 households out of which 38.9 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.4 percent were married couples living together. 8.2 percent were single mothers and 23.1 percent were non-families. 20.0 percent of all households and 9.6 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.32 persons.
31.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.1 percent 18-24 Years, 25.2 percent between 25 and 44, 20.9 percent between 45 and 64 years. 13.2 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 99.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 97.8 males.
The median household income was 32 021 U.S. dollars, and the median income for a family $ 36,500. Males have a median income of $ 28,977, women $ 19,521. The per capita income was $ 13,813. 11.9 percent of families and 14.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
