Mining and Gothic Museum

The Mining Museum and Gothic Leogang is a mining museum in the village of huts of the community Leogang in Austria. The museum is located in the old mountain house managers of the former mining village huts. On three levels, partly underground, the mining history of the region and the medieval art of association is shown.

History

The museum was founded in 1992.

Collection

The museum acquired the Austrian Museum label and in 2003 the Museum Prize of the State of Salzburg. It houses a collection of Gothic saints from the Alpine region.

Mining culture

The life of the miners is illustrated especially in the Knapp kitchen, crafts room and Hoyer exchange. Thus, the Hoyer room deals with the expulsion of a total of 20,000 Lutherans, many of them miners, from the Archdiocese of Salzburg in 1731. Minerals

Sacred Art

This topic shows Gothic statues of saints from the Alps, for example, the " Beautiful Lady ", which was made ​​in 1410 in either Salzburg or Prague.
