Ministry of Defence (Russia)

The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation (Russian Министерство обороны Российской Федерации, Ministerstwo Obrony Rossijskoj Federazii ), colloquially Минобороны, Minoborony is the Department of Defense in Russia and one of the 16 ministries of the Government of the Russian Federation.

General

It belongs, together with the interior, the exterior and the Department of Justice and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the five ministries of the Russian cabinet, which report directly to the President of Russia. Its central task is the design and implementation of state policy in the field of national defense. The exact duties and powers of the Minoborony as well as its internal organization are laid down in the Staff Regulations on the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, which was confirmed on 16 August, 2004, as amended by Presidential Decree.

The Minoborony subordinated to the entire Russian armed forces, with the exception of internal troops (such as the special forces to combat terrorism ), managed by the Ministry of Interior.

Minister of Defence

The head of the Minoborony is the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation ( министр обороны Российской Федерации, Minister Obrony ). Since November 6, 2012 Sergei Shoigu is in office. His predecessors include Anatoly Serdyukov (2007-2012), Sergei Ivanov (2001-2007), Igor Sergeyev (1997-2001) and Pavel Grachev (1992-1996). Boris Yeltsin also practiced April-May 1992 parallel to his job as president, the secretary of defense, as acting out.
