Ministry of Popular Culture

The Ministry of Popular Culture (it. Ministero della Cultura Popolare, or " Minculpop " ) took over in the Kingdom of Italy in the fascist period the substantive guidance of the press, literature, visual arts, film, theater, music and broadcasting and the promotion of tourism. In the short-lived Italian Social Republic exercised an organization of the same name from the control of culture and mass media.

History

Benito Mussolini set up after the march on Rome and the government takeover nor the end of 1922 the " Press office of the prime minister " a. 1933, his son Galeazzo Ciano as press officer to lead this office. Impressed by Joseph Goebbels new Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, Ciano had his press office to upgrade to the State Secretariat for Press and Propaganda in September 1934, in June 1935 then to the Ministry of Press and Propaganda. Under Ciano's successor Dino Alfieri, it was expanded and renamed on 22 May 1937 in Ministry of folk culture. From 1939 to 1943 Alessandro Pavolini headed the ministry. After the deposition of the fascist government in July 1943, the Ministry in the area controlled by the Allies Kingdom of Italy was formally still further until it was definitively dissolved on April 22, 1944. In built under German control in northern Italy Italian Social Republic was an eponymous Ministry on 23 September 1943 to 25 April 1945.

1936, the Ministry was divided into the following Directorates-General ( departments ):

  • Directorate-General for the foreign press
  • Directorate-General for propaganda
  • Directorate General of film ( with Cinecittà and Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia )
  • Directorate General of Tourism ( with downstream tourist offices )
  • Directorate-General for theater
  • General Directorate of the Istituto Luce (cinema)
  • General Directorate of the Istituto Nazionale del dramma Antico
  • Directorate-General for the State Disco ( Vinyl )
  • Directorate-General for the hotel Credit Committee
