Minnesota State Highway 55

Minnesota Route 55 is a 362 km long state highway in Minnesota, which runs in an east-west direction.

The western terminus is the border with North Dakota near Tenney. In North Dakota, the road leads as North Dakota State Route 11 on. The eastern end is located in Hastings at the intersection with U.S. Highway 61

The western part of the highway that leads to the center of Minneapolis, is known as Olson Memorial Highway, which is named for Floyd B. Olson, a former governor of Minnesota with Norwegian descent. Southeast of downtown Route 55 is known as Hiawatha Avenue. A light rail, the Hiawatha Line leads to a large part of this section parallel to the road.

In July 2005, the section that runs through the center of Minneapolis, was returned to the local road authority. To fill the gap, the route was merged with Interstate 94. To the west route 55 just outside the city center on the leading westbound I- 94 and exit at the exit for the Olson Memorial Highway. To the east, Route 55 leads from this point on I- 94 East and follow it to the exit to Hiawatha Avenue.

Route 55 crosses the Minnesota River over the Mendota Bridge, which was the longest reinforced concrete bridge in the world at the time of its completion in 1926. It measures approximately 1256 m.
