Minnetrista

Minnetrista is a museum and cultural center in Muncie, Indiana. Since its opening in December of 1988, it is responsible for the story of the seven counties of Central Eastern Indiana.

History

The emergence of Minnetrista goes back to the family of entrepreneurs Ball, who had relocated their glass production in 1887 from Buffalo, New York to Muncie. They decided the region at the success of their company, which is one of the world's largest manufacturers of metal and plastic packaging for the food and beverage industry today participate. The idea of a cultural center was inaugurated in 1978 when Margaret Ball Petty her cousin Edmund F. Ball suggested that the Ball Brothers Foundation should open a museum of art. In a four year study of the cultural needs of the region of Central Eastern Indiana were determined. This placed the protection of the cultural heritage of the region out as a special focus. On December 10, 1988, the Minnetrista Cultural Center was opened.

On a 16 -acre site, the Minnetrista has eight main building, where 65 employees and over 450 volunteers work. In addition to various gardens and museum facilities, the campus also includes a historic home, a Nature Area and various sculptures. Each year, exhibitions and educational programs are offered in relation to nature, history, botany and art.
