Mino da Fiesole

Mino da Fiesole, occasionally Mino di Giovanni and Mino da Poppio (* 1430 or 1431 in Poppi, Arezzo, † July 11, 1484 in Florence ) was an Italian architect and sculptor.

Mino da Fiesole got his first artistic training in Fiesole and then went to Florence, the sculptor Desiderio da Settignano in the teaching and was trained in works of Roman antiquity. Soon he was his teacher par and led various orders in Fiesole, Florence and Rome. Mainly these were more monumental works.

His portrait busts were groundbreaking for the portrait art of the Renaissance and are an example of the naturalistic portraits of the 15th century. Important examples of this are the bust of Niccolo Strozzi (1454 ), which is located in Berlin's sculpture collection at the Bode Museum, or the bust of Piero de ' Medici ( 1453), which is part of the collection of the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. He also created tombs and Tabernakelaltäre.
