Minsk (Band)

Minsk is an American psychedelic rock and doom metal band from Peoria and Chicago, Illinois, which was founded in 2002.

History

The band was formed in 2002 and consisted of vocalist and keyboardist Tim Mead, guitarist Chris Bennett, bassist Jeff Hyde and drummer Anthony Couri. There was a first demo as well as appearances on the West Coast of the United States. Meanwhile, bassist Hyde left the band and was replaced by Joel Madigan, which should help out but just live with the band. There were other local appearances and in 2004 to participate in the Templars of Doom festival. In addition, the band on the compilation If It Plays could be heard. In early 2005 the band recorded their debut album Out of a Center Which Is Neither Dead Nor Alive in the Volume Studios with producer Sanford Parker. Parker took over the recordings the bass and stayed as a permanent member of the band. The album was released in the same year on At a Loss Recordings. In 2006 appearances followed throughout the United States along with groups such as Brutal Truth, High on Fire, Boris, Sunn O))), Torche, Pig Destroyer, Rwake, Asschapel and Baroness. In addition, the band at South by Southwest and the Monolith Festival participated. Middle of the year the band signed a record deal with Relapse Records.

In summer and autumn, the band then on her album The Ritual Fires of Abandonment in the Volume Studios again worked under the direction of Sanford Parker. The album was released in 2007. During the same year, the band again took part in the South by Southwest and made a tour of the East Coast of the United States along with Rwake from after they had previously played together with Bible of the Devil. After further appearances along with Trouble followed a tour through Europe before early June 2009 was followed by the album With Echoes in the Movement of Stone.

Style

Laut.de described the music as a mix of doom metal and psychedelic rock of the 1970s and drew comparisons to groups like Neurosis and Mastodon.
