The Minjor Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in the Bulgarian town of Pernik. It can accommodate 8,000 spectators and is the football club Minjor Pernik as homestead.

History

The Minjor Stadium in Pernik, a city with more than 100,000 inhabitants in western Bulgaria approximately thirty kilometers südwestlilch capital Sofia, was built between 1951-1954 and opened in the presence of many politicians, military personnel and athletes on May 30, 1954. Previously was located at the same place a sports field, which was used by the local football club Minjor Pernik. The last game on the old pitch rose in 1951 against the Soviet club Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine today. In the same year, construction began on Minjor Stadium, three years later, were in 1954, finished. Since then, the sports venue of Minjor Pernik is used as a venue for home games in football. Minjor Pernik as biggest success in club history to reach the final of the Bulgarian Football Cup, or in the former Soviet Army Cup in 1958, where, however, Spartak Plovdiv was defeated 0-1. In league play, the club played to date more than thirty seasons in Bulgaria's top league, the A Grupa. There one is currently active after the rise of the B Grupa was succeeded in the 2007/ 08 season. Since then Minjor Pernik plays in the first division.

Over the years, the stadium had Minjor meantime the name of Georgi Dimitrov - Stadium, by Georgi Dimitrov (1882-1949), a Bulgarian communist politician and from 1946 until his death, Prime Minister of Bulgaria. After the political changes in Eastern Europe, the sports complex was renamed and given the title Minjor Stadium. The Minjor Stadium today can accommodate 8,000 spectators. Once the capacity of the stadium was 20,000 spectators, but in August 2009 had to be rebuilt the Minjor Stadium to meet the requirements of the Bulgarian Football Union for admission to A Grupa. With the renovations, the West Stand was completely rebuilt and equipped with seats. At present there are plans to carry out an expansion of the stadium.
