Miodrag Perunović

Miodrag Perunovic; Montenegrin: Миодраг Перуновић ( born December 10, 1957 in Cetinje ) is a former Yugoslav- Montenegrin boxer. It was 1978 Vice - welterweight champion, 1979 European champion in light middleweight, and in 1981 Vice European Champion. He also took the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.

Amateur career

Miodrag Perunovic boxed for Budućnost Titograd. He already won in 1973 at the age of 15 years, the bronze medal in the lightweight in the Balkan Championships in Athens, and in 1976 the bronze medal in the light welterweight, at the Junior European Championships in Izmir. In 1978 he won the Yugoslav Championship welterweight and took in this weight class also participated in the World Championships the same year in Belgrade, where he won the silver medal. He had thereby Pedro Gamarro from Venezuela, Ion Vladimir from Romania, Athanasios Iliades from Greece and Ernst Müller from Germany defeated before losing only in the final against Valeri Rachkow from the Soviet Union nearly 2:3 judges' votes.

In 1979, he won the light middleweight respectively Yugoslav Championships in Pula, the Mediterranean Games in Split and the European Championships in Cologne, where he the reigning world champion Viktor Savchenko from the Soviet Union defeated in the European Championship final. For these achievements, in 1979 he was elected to the " Yugoslav Sportsman of the Year ".

In 1980, he represented Yugoslavia in the light middleweight, at the 22th Olympic Summer Games in Moscow. However, it was defeated in the second round of the British Nick Wilshire almost 2:3 on points.

In 1981 he again won the Yugoslav Championship light middleweight and launched in this weight class also at the European Championships the same year in Tampere, where he successfully fought the silver medal. This time he was in the final inferior to Alexander Koshkin from the Soviet Union.

Professional career

He changed even in 1981 turned professional and won on 1 September 1989 in Munich, the Intercontinental Championship IBF middleweight; he won it on points against the German champions Andreas Prox (balance sheet: 11-4). Additional defeated opponents included, among others Roberto Manoni ( 18-3 ), Jose Rose Main ( 10-0 ) and Salvador Yañez (16-1 ).

On November 14, 1991, he boxed in Ancona, Italy to the European EBU middleweight against Sumbu Kalambay ( 52-5 ), but this was defeated by TKO in the fourth round. Then he played only three fights before he finished his professional career with a record of 22 wins ( 7 KO ), 6 losses (4 Ko) and 2 draws at the end of 1994.
