The park opened on 8 July 1992 as a project of a group of investors with the main attractions of Rio Bravo and the wooden roller coaster Sierra Tonante. After some problems Mirabilandia, was acquired in November 1996 by the family Löffelhardt, which also owns the German Phantasialand, and Giancarlo Casoli, one of the amusement ride manufacturer SDC owners. In the following years the resort has been developed and built the famous roller coaster Katun among others. In 2006, the Spanish leisure chain Parques Reunidos Mirabilandia bought for about 100 million euros.

In 2002, the former "Play Center Pernambuco " in Brazil Olinda was also taken over by one of the owners of the Italian parks, renamed " MIRABILANDIA " and operated to this day with the same logos and mascots.
