Miralem Sulejmani (Serbian: Миралем Сулејмани; born December 5, 1988 in Belgrade ) is a Serbian football player who is under contract at Ajax Amsterdam, and plays for the Serbian national football team. 2008, the attacker changed hands for more than 16 million euros to Ajax Amsterdam, which is so far the most expensive transfer in the Netherlands. For the 2013/14 season he moved to Benfica, where he signed a five-year contract.

Club career

Partizan Belgrade

Miralem Sulejmani has undergone since 2000, the famous youth teams of FK Partizan. As a professional, he made his debut for the club in 2005 and was considered one of the greatest football talents of the country. After one and a half years and a few uses, he joined in January 2007 in the Netherlands for SC Heerenveen.

SC Heerenveen

Because of inconsistencies during his move to SC Heerenveen striker has been banned until May 11, 2007 by the Association. Only for season 2007/ 08 he was able to attack right at his new employer. He made his debut on 13 May 2007, in the 3-0 win against Heracles Almelo, where he succeeded in preparing a goal. His first goal scored Sulejmani August 17, 2007 against Willem II Tilburg. In the next match against Ajax Amsterdam Serb already scored his second goal. In the course of the season, Sulejmani developed for service providers and important pillar of the team. These services let the national and international top teams not unobserved. In July 2008, the attacker eventually went for 16.25 million million euros to Ajax Amsterdam, which is the highest ever paid transfer fee for a change within the Netherlands.

The record transfer fee of EUR 16.25 million, the expectations of the attackers were high. But Sulejmani, who was previously elected in the 2007/2008 season for the football talent of the year in the Netherlands, played quickly in the starting eleven of the Amsterdam and quickly developed into a fan favorite. He made his debut for Ajax in a friendly match against English side FC Sunderland. In his first competitive game for Ajax in the Eredivisie, he scored a goal against Willem II Tilburg. In the first game of the following season, he scored two goals against De Graafschap. In the first round of the League he scored 11 goals in 17 games.

During the winter break numerous top clubs from all over Europe showed great interest in Sulejmani, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Valencia from Spain. On 4 March 2012, he was injured in a game between Ajax and Roda JC Kerkrade and fell to the season end. In the 2012/13 season, Sulejmani decided not to renew his contract with Ajax Amsterdam, which was due to expire in the summer. Then he came less and less used. In February 2013 he was first associated with the portugesieschen giants Benfica. After it was confirmed that he signed for Benfica coach Frank de Boer degraded him in the second team of Ajax, where he was to spend the rest of the season 2012/13 before moving to Portugal.

For the season 2013/14 he moved with his Nationalelfkollegen Filip Lazar Marković and Đuričić to Benfica, where he signed a five-year contract. There, the two meet on their common Nationalelfkollegen Nemanja Matic.

National

On 6 February 2008 Sulejmani debuted at the game in Skopje against Macedonia in the Serbian national football team. Previously, he has played several times for the U -19 and U-21 national team of his native country. His first goal he scored on 12 September 2012 in a 6-1 win against Wales in Novi Sad. In the next friendly match on November 14, 2012 against Chile, which Serbia won 3-1, he was in the starting lineup and prepared the 1-0 Young Star Lazar Marković ago.
