Miramont-Sensacq

The community Miramont- Sensacq is located in the French region of Aquitaine in the Landes department. Due to the less than 353 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) counting place leads the GR 65, which largely follows the historical course of the French Road to Santiago Via Podiensis.

Geography

Miramont- Sensacq located in the southwest of France in the Pyrenees foothills in the historic area Tursan. Today, the Tursan is still a wine -growing region of importance. The nearest town is Pau, which can be reached in a southerly direction over the D11 and the N134 after 38 kilometers of road. The next major French cities are Toulouse (142 km ) to the east and Bordeaux ( 140 km) to the north.

The municipal area is drained by the rivers Bahus and Grand Bas north. The Bahus here forms the reservoir Retenue de Miramont.

History

Miramont was founded in 1276 as Bastide by King Edward I of England. On February 25, 1845 Miramont- Sensacq was summarized by order of the French King Louis -Philippe of the two places Sensacq Miramont and to a community. The population declined sharply. While it by 841 residents were in 1881, today there are less than 400

Way of St. James ( Via Podiensis )

The place offers two pilgrims' hostels (French: Gîte d' étape ) only sparse accommodations. The other way is through the hills of the Pyrenees foothills. Meadows, small woods and the old villages on the hills dominate the picture. The nearest major town is Pimbo before it goes to Arzacq- Arraziguet. The road link to Pimbo via the D440.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Jacques de Sensacq. The Romanesque building dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. Is the bell tower, which carries a bell in each of its two arches above the entrance. Inside is a Carolingian baptismal font.
