Miraumont

Miraumont ( Picard: Mirumont ) is a northern French village with 696 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is part of the Canton of Albert and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays du Coquelicot.

Geography

Located at the source of the River Ancre community on the border between Picardy and Artois is located approximately 13 kilometers north of Albert to the streets department D50, D107, D151 and D163. Through the municipal area the railway line Paris -Lille runs with a breakpoint. To Miraumont include the vilage Les Heritages, La Fontaine and Petit Miraumont.

History

In the municipality traces of a Gallo- Roman villa were found. Miraumont is called 1106 as a possession of the abbey of Corbie. 1220 is a hospital here. In 1532 the town was burned and sacked by the Imperialists. The hospital was in 1697 united with that of Albert. On January 3, 1971 Miraumont was one of the sites of the Battle of Bapaume.

The destroyed in World War Municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.
