Miriam Cooper

Miriam Cooper ( born November 7, 1891 in Baltimore, Maryland, † April 12, 1976 in Charlottesville, Virginia) was an American actress.

Life

Miriam Cooper was one of five children in a Roman Catholic family. The father left the family and went to Europe. The mother initially received support from the mother, after her death, the fatherless family lived in abject poverty. Miriam Cooper had to temporarily live in an orphanage and was finally brought up in a boarding school by nuns. After school, the 1.47 m tall girls earned their living first as a model and played her first small role, directed by the legendary DW Griffith in 1911 in a movie. Then she went to Florida, where she made more than 30 films for the Kalem Studios. In 1914 she discovered Griffith again and gave her the lead roles in his classic The Birth of a Nation and Intolerance. During filming, she fell in love with the wizard of Griffith Raoul Walsh and married him in 1916. After their wedding, they only shot a few films under the direction of her husband. The desire to become her mother remained unfulfilled. Finally, the couple adopted two boys. The marriage was divorced in 1925 but due to the constant infidelity by Raoul Walsh. Miriam Cooper never made ​​a movie again and even married ever again.
