Miro Gavran

Miro Gavran (* 1961 or 3rd May 1962 Gornja Trnava) is a Croatian writer and dramatist.

Life

Gavran is one of the most prominent Croatian writers of his generation. After studying at the Academy of Theatre, Film and Television in Zagreb, he worked from 1986 to 1992 first as a playwright, later as artistic director at the famous Teatar & TD. For ten years, Miro Gavran writes full time and became the most translated Croatian contemporary dramatist. He debuted in 1983 with Kreontova Antigona. Since then, he has produced more than 30 plays which have been performed at national and international stages. One of his greatest successes came in 1999 with the premiere of his play Kraljevi i konjušari at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford (Connecticut), USA. With several novels and children 's books Miro Gavran also found as narrator great response from both critics and the readers. His novel Judita (2001) was nominated for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 2003. Miro Gavrans work has been translated into 30 languages ​​and many awards include the Central European Time International Literary Award for Best Central European Writer of the Year (1999). In 2003 he was awarded for his exceptional contribution to the promotion of cultural, European values ​​the European Circle Award of the European Movement in Zagreb. With his wife, actress Mladena Gavran, founded by the author in the fall of 2002, the Gavran Theatre in Zagreb, where he still lives.
