Miroslav Ondříček

Miroslav Ondříček (* November 4, 1934 in Prague) is a Czech cinematographer.

Life

Miroslav Ondříček studied at the Prague film school FAMU. After various assistance functions he photographed first short films and then began a long collaboration with the director Miloš Forman. In the time of the Prague Spring came with films such as The Loves of a Blonde and The Firemen's Ball Productions, who also had international success. Ondříček also had the opportunity to take the camera work in the film If ... by Lindsay Anderson. After the occupation of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact troops emigrated Ondříček and took in Hollywood working with Milos Forman on again, but also worked several times with George Roy Hill together.

1982 ( Ragtime ) and 1985 ( Amadeus) was nominated for an Oscar each for Best camera. In 1986 he was awarded for his work on Amadeus with the British Academy Film Award for Best Cinematography.

2004 awarded him the American Society of Cinematographers with the International Achievement Award.
