Miroslav Šatan ( born October 22, 1974 in Topoľčany, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak ice hockey player standing since 2011 when HC Slovan Bratislava in the Kontinental Hockey League contract.

Career

Miroslav Šatan began his career in the youth of the HC Topoľčany and made his debut for them in the season 1991/92 when he graduated from nine games in the first SNHL, in which he scored two goals and an assist. He then moved to HC Dukla Trenčín. There he played the seasons 1992/93 and 1993 / 94th In Dukla Trenčín he played with Pavol Demitra. NHL Entry Draft 1993, he was drawn by the Edmonton Oilers in the fifth round at 111th place.

The 1994/95 season played Šatan in North America in a total of four different farm teams. In the following season, he was allowed to Edmonton in the National Hockey League on the ice. The first assist he gave the first game against the Philadelphia Flyers and the first goal a week later against the Vancouver Canucks.

1997 Šatan was transferred for Barrie Moore and Craig Millar to the Buffalo Sabres. He was able to prevail in the new team quickly. Already the 1997/98 season, he finished as the second best scorer of the team. The best season he completed the game in 1998 /99. In 81 games, the regular season, he scored 40 goals and 26 assists. He closed his plus / minus rating from a value of 24. In the season 1999/2000 he was back in top form and made it the only player of the Buffalo Sabres All-Star team. With 67 scorer points ( 33 goals and 34 assists) and a plus / minus rating of 16, he was the best scorer of the Sabres season.

With a total of 62 points ( 29 goals and 33 assists), he was again the best scorer of the Sabres in the 2000 /01 season. He also was one of eleven attack players of the NHL, who shot more than 100 goals in the last three seasons. After the departure of goalie Dominik Hasek Buffalo wins first time after five seasons in 2001/ 02 season, not the playoffs. Šatan scored 37 goals and had 36 assists.

The 2002/03 season was a very difficult for the Sabres. The club owner came because of tax fraud in prison, the club had no money, and therefore the players got their salaries late. The results on the ice were thus to be desired. Nevertheless, Miroslav Šatan scored a total of 75 points scorer ( 26 goals and 49 assists), who are his career record to date.

During the NHL lockout Šatan played for HC Slovan Bratislava and was with them Slovakian champion. Before the season 2005/ 06 Šatan signed a three year contract for 12.75 million U.S. dollars at the New York Islanders.

The NHL season 2008/ 09 stormed Šatan for the Pittsburgh Penguins and won his first Stanley Cup. In the 2009/10 season, he initially found no new club and was only early January 2010 committed by the Boston Bruins until season's end. At the start of the following season, he returned for a few games to Slovan Bratislava, as he again found no employer in the NHL. In January 2011, he was taken to end of season under contract by OHK Dynamo of the Kontinental Hockey League. Then he was again without a club before he was in September 2011 again obliged Slovan Bratislava. A year later, he extended his contract with Slovan by one year. In November 2012, he was during a KHL match against HC Lev Prague seriously injured by Zdeno Chara, so that he completed only 21 KHL games for Slovan. After the 2012/13 season, his contract was not renewed at first, but by the end November 2013 he returned for Slovan back on the ice.

Internationally

Miroslav Šatan won with Slovakia at the World Championships 2002 Gold, 2000 and 2012, silver in 2003 and bronze. In addition, he took part in the World Cup 2004 and the 2005 World Cup. He captained the shirt number 18, the country of his greatest successes.

Šatan is the first hockey player to win both the A-, B- and C World Championships, as well as the Stanley Cup.
