Miroslav Stefan Marusyn

Miroslaw Stefan Marusyn (Ukrainian Мирослав Марусин; born June 26, 1924 in Knjasche, Tarnopol Voivodeship, Poland, today in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine; † 21 September 2009 in Rome ) was an Archbishop Curia of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Miroslav Marusyn studied during the Second World War in the seminary in Paderborn and received on 2 May 1948, the ordination. From 1949 to 1951 he completed his doctoral studies at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him in 1974 as Titular Bishop of Cadi and appointed him as Apostolic Visitor for the Ukrainians in Western Europe and the Curia. He received his episcopal consecration on 28 July 1974 in the chapel of the Pontifical Ukrainian College in Rome Curia Archbishop Ivan Bucko; Co-consecrators were Bishop Platon V. Kornyljak, Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainian Catholic Byzantine Rite in Germany and Scandinavia, Bishop Volodymyr Malanczuk CSsR, Altexarch for Ukrainian believers in France, Bishop Augustine Hornyak, OSBM, Exarch for the Ukrainians believing the Byzantine Rite in England, Joakim Segedi, auxiliary bishop in the diocese and Bishop Vasile Cristea Križevci AA, Apostolic Visitor of the Romanians of the Byzantine rite in Europe.

Paul VI. put it in 1977 as the successor of Ignatius Clemens Mansourat of the Syrian Church as Vice- President of the Commission for the codification of the Eastern Church law ( Pontificia Commissio Codici Iuris Canonici Orientalis Recognoscendo ) a; 1987 followed him Emile Eid of the Maronite Church.

In 1982 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II with the appointment of Titular Archbishop Secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches; he followed Archbishop Mario Brini. Miroslav Marusyn was the first member of the Ukrainian Church, who held such a high office in the Curia. In 1999 he was a participant at the annual meeting of the Pontifical Foundation Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice. 2001 his age-related resignation was accepted.

He wrote many liturgical and theological essays with scientific, historical, liturgical and biblical content. 1984 Miroslav Marusyn was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Vienna.
