Miroslav Votava

Miroslav " Mirko " Votava ( born April 25, 1956 in Prague ) is a former German football player and current coach.

Life

Youth

The Czech-born " Mirko " Votava played as a child in the former Czechoslovakia at Dukla Prague and came with his parents during the Prague Spring of 1968 to Germany. From there the family moved to Australia initially, but soon returned to Germany. Henceforth, Mirko played together with his older brother Joseph Votava in the youth team of VfL Witten in Witten -Annen and visited the Freiligrathschule.

Professional career

In 1973, Joseph Votava, who was considered the more talented of the brothers to Borussia Dortmund, which after a relegation from the Bundesliga at this time in the regional, the then second division, played. Even during the same season came Mirko, who joined in 1973 in the youth team of Borussia Dortmund, as a teenager for his first stakes in the professional team. In the German national Votava played from 1979 to 1981 a total of five times, and was with the team in the European Football Championship in Italy in 1980 European Soccer Championships, but was it only used in the group match against Greece.

More career

After his playing career Votava was previously coach with modest success. In July 1997 he took over as player-coach his first coaching job in the Football Regional VfB Oldenburg, July 1998 to April 1999, he coached the SV Meppen. In 2000 he became chief scout at Werder Bremen until the second division 1 FC Union Berlin took over in November 2002. Here he worked until March 2004 before he was replaced by Aleksandar Ristic.
